Kael of Ashford in The Sodden Aqueduct

The tale

Kael of Ashford descended into the Sodden Aqueduct. On floor 1 a slab of wet stone crashed from the ceiling. He struck the first blow of the run against a shoalspear. He missed a trap, a 56 percent chance, and took 5 damage. A shoalspear wound up two heavy blows; his guard broke against the first but held against the second, and he punished that opening. He reached floor 2. A lost spirit asked its riddle in the wet stone, and a pack of Brinelings skittered through the shallows. He missed another trap and took 10 damage. He turned the great dial by the evening star and pressed the shell, and the altar opened a sluice gate that drained a straight passage to the stairs. The Cistern Keeper wound up two heavy blows; both met his guard. The Cistern Keeper fell, and he claimed its Sea-Glass Lantern. He reached floor 3, solved the moon dial at the altar, and another sluice gate opened. A sodden pack hung from a broken railing. He reached floor 4, missed another trap for 21 damage, then spotted one. An Anchorbearer met his guard and fell at once to his reply. Two rune doors stayed shut. The Undertow Captain’s blow struck his guard and held there, yet the captain fell. He took the Mirror of Still Water and turned back after 27 minutes below, carrying 781 XP.
